Frequently Asked Questions
We get it, starting at a new gym is hard. To make things a bit easier, we’ve put together a list of common questions. Still got a question? Head to the Contact page and get in touch.
What do I wear to training?
Comfortable exercise/activewear. For males, comfortable and loose shorts with a T-shirt or singlet. Females, leggings/tights or comfortable shorts. We also sell ACE Martial Arts training attire at our venue.
Do I need equipment to start with?
For you first session, all you need is hand wraps to protect your hands (we have these available). Once you’re a member you’ll require 10-12oz boxing gloves. As you progress you may need some other equipment, these include shin pads (kickboxing only), 16oz boxing gloves and a mouthguard.
Do I have to spar and will I get hit?
Sparring is not compulsory and students will only begin light sparring when they reach the required skill and level.
I’ve never done martial arts before does this matter?
Not at all. We cater to all levels from beginners to experienced martial artists and fighters. We use a very easy to follow coaching system that helps beginners progress faster than normal.
Do you have a grading system?
Yes, we have a grading system available for boxing, kickboxing and freestyle. Grading is not compulsory however it’s nice to have a goal to work towards with many people enjoying the process of preparing and training for grading.
Do you have parking at the venue?
Yes, there is plenty of street parking available on Tabrett St and the Princes Hwy. We also have access to Supercheap Auto carpark at the front of the building from Mon to Wed & Fri from 5:30 pm and Thursday from 7pm.
Am I too old to start training?
Not at all, whether you’re in your teens or in your 60’s it’s never too late to start. We’ve had people start training at ACE Martial Arts in their 50’s and have become very good and confident martial artists and boxers.
